An Excursion to Osmeña Peak, Dalaguete, Cebu

Here’s a short journey to Osmeña Peak, the said to be one of the highest points in the island of Cebu standing 1,013 meters above sea level located in Brgy. Mantalongon,  Municipality of  Dalaguete, Cebu, Philippines.

How did we get here?

We took a bus from South Bus Terminal and departed at exactly 4:00 in the morning, reaching Dalaguete junction for Osmeña Peak around 6AM.

From there, we took habal-habal for P200, roundtrip fare. A 30-45 minutes ride to trail head but I didn’t even notice it because I was busy getting amazed by different kinds of veggies planted on their lawn, watching the road covered by clouds and playing with my breathe fogged up the air.

At the jumping-off point to Osmeña Peak, we were able to rent a jacket for P50 and a hiking stick for P10. Entrance fee is P30 per head and you have to sign their tourist log book.

We were trying to catch the sunrise but to no avail as there were heavy fog and the locals said the sky usually clears at 8AM.

It’s roughly 15-25 minutes hike, easier and faster than Mt. Naupa in Naga, Cebu. (previous climb I had prior to this one)

The campers.

The hike may not be as challenging as the other peaks you’ve been but the peak view is worth visiting.

We just stayed for like 2 hours because our main agenda was really the Alcoy beach for our cluster team building.

“Travel Tips”

  • What to wear: You can wear shorts/leggings or slippers/shoes. It’s a minor hike so any comfortable outdoor clothes will do. Just make sure to bring a jacket with you if you’ll do the morning hike because it’s cold.
  • What to expect: The sun rises early at Dalaguete junction but the peak clears the sky normally at 8AM (depending on the weather and what month)
  • Tour guides are not really necessary. The trail is easily accessible, if you’re afraid of getting lost, you won’t.
  • Don’t leave your trash. Pack out all your used plastic bottles and take them with you when you go down.
